The Recommendations on Evaluation Items for Open Science Activities have been proposed by the Working Group on the Evaluation of Open Science Activities, which comprises researchers from both within and outside RIKEN. This document aims to propose evaluation items that can function as one of the incentives for promoting open science in the life sciences field.
The first meeting of the working group was held in August 2021. Since then, numerous discussions have taken place, including three review meetings with invited external researchers, as well as reviews of draft recommendations conducted via social media. As a result, the interim report (written in Japanese) was approved for release by the OLSP Steering Committee on March 17, 2025.
The interim report summarizes the discussions to date and presents proposed indicators for evaluating open science activities. Moving forward, the content of the recommendations will be further enhanced toward the final report by incorporating the latest trends in open science both in Japan and abroad, concrete methods for measuring and calculating the evaluation indicators, and feedback from researchers in and outside Japan. The final report is scheduled to be made publicly available.
